Exponentiation

During exponentiation you multiply the base x so often with itself as indicated by the exponent y

 


Explanation

You can write an exponentiation as a normal multiplication

32 = 3 × 3 = 9

Here you see that in a multiplication the exponents must be added

31 × 31 = 31+1 = 32

Likewise, in a division the exponents must be subtracted

Now you can also perform more difficult calculations

Then you've also got

23 × 32 = 8 × 9 = 72

With letters this is not possible, because

That will be clear. Now we make it slightly more complicated
